Woman Injured In Homophobic Attack In Southsea

Police are investigating a homophobic attack on two people, outside a gay bar in Southsea.

A man and woman were injured by three men near Hampshire Boulevard in St Pauls Road early on Saturday - she suffered a fractured eye socket.

They also had abuse shouted at them and food thrown.

It took place between 2.45am and 3.15am on Saturday 15 October.

The victims, a 22-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were approached by three white men, described as being in their early 20s. The men threw food at the victims before shouting homophobic abuse and assaulting them.

The woman suffered a fracture around her left eye socket. The man received a cut lip.

Detective Constable Sharon Lewry, of Fratton CID, said: 

"This was a totally unprovoked attack and it is being treated as a homophobic incident.

"While this was an isolated incident, we will not tolerate assaults of this kind. If anyone saw what happened they should call 101 as soon as possible."
