The Capital Weekender with Meg McHugh 10pm - 1am
The woman was walking home from the university area at some time between 10.30pm and 11.30pm. Her route took her along Sparkford Road onto Airlie Road onto Cromwell Road and finally onto Stanmore Lane.
As the woman was walking between Cromwell Road and Mildmay Road on Stanmore Lane she remembers being hit on the side of her head. She woke to find herself on the ground and believes she had been sexually assaulted.
The woman was wearing a brown leather jacket and green skirt at the time and had been talking on her mobile phone during most of her journey.
The man is described as:
Asian
Aged in his 30s
5ft 9ins or taller
With messy, dirty dark hair and a parting
Wearing dark blue jeans and a dark blue long sleeved shirt rolled to mid forearm.
Detective Constable Iain Turner said: “I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the areas of Sparkford Road, Airlie Road, Cromwell Road and Stanmore Lane on Wednesday night and remembers seeing anything suspicious.
“Winchester is a very safe place to live and to work and this type of crime is very rare. We are doing all we can to find out exactly what happened that night and identify the man responsible. However I would urge anyone walking home at night to considertheir own personal safety and not walk alone if possible.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Iain Turner at Alton Police Station on 101.
