The storage of fuel is very dangerous and has the potential to increase the risk of fire.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service therefore has issued the following guidance to protect members of the public.
Petrol should be stored away from the house in either a shed or a garage, well away from people and anywhere where it might be close to a naked flame or other source of ignition.
If you are planning on storing petrol, you should only use containers built specifically for the purpose of carrying petrol.
These are metal containers of 10 litres (approximately 2 gallons) or plastic containers of five litres (approximately 1 gallon).
You can legally store up to 30 litres of petrol in two appropriate 10 litre metal containers and two appropriate 5 litre plastic containers.
