Police in Gosport are advising motorists to review their vehicle security following a spate of vehicle crime in the area.
Since the beginning of December 2011 80 vehicles have been targeted in the Gosport area.
A large percentage of these vehicles were left insecure and the most common items being stolen are Sat Navs. Most offences are committed overnight and in the early hours of the morning.
Sergeant Lesley Meenaghan said:
“Thieves will look for an easy target. If a member of the public leaves their car unlocked they are extending an open invitation to the criminal to help themselves to the vehicle and its contents. I urge thepublic to be vigilant in the security of their possessions. Remove your Sat Nav from your car and leave nothing on display.
“If you see anyone paying a lot of attention to unattended cars please contact us straight away.”
Anyone with information should contact Sergeant Simon Law at Gosport police station on 101. Mini-Com users can call the police on 01962 875000. Information can be given anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
