Trio Bailed After Gosport Hit And Run

Police are continuing their investigation into a hit and run in Gosport on Saturday night.

At around 11.15pm on Saturday, July the 2nd, two women crossing Stoke Road were struck by a car heading east towards Spring Garden Lane.

One of the women, a 20-year-old from Fareham, suffered what were said to be life threatening injuries. The other, a 19-year-old from Gosport, suffered serious injuries.

Both are recovering at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.

The car, which is described as a small, dark-coloured vehicle, failed to stop and left the scene driving down Spring Garden Lane.

Officers investigating the collision later arrested three people. They were questioned and bailed until October 5th pending further enquiries. They are:

A 21-year-old man from Fyfe, arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink and wounding with intent

A 30-year-old woman from Gosport, arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road accident and wounding with intent

A 35-year-old man from Gosport, arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing stop after a road accident and wounding with intent

Sergeant Andy Lynch from the Road Death Investigation team said: 

“Both women are making a good recovery and are now in a stable condition in hospital. Both have suffered a broken leg, but it’s fair to say it’s lucky their injuries are not much worse.

“We later recovered a burnt out vehicle which we believed was the one involved. Our enquiries are ongoing and we’d like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw a small, dark-coloured car driving around the area at the time. I’d also like to hear from anyone else with information about what happened. All calls will be treated in confidence.”
