Terrier Rescued From Spare Wheel

A terrier's been rescued by a Hampshire Fire & Rescue team after getting her head stuck in a spare tyre!

Experts from the Animal Rescue Team were called to Crondall Road in Church Crookham, Fleet on Sunday 11th March 2012, at around 9.47am.

Tinks, an eight year old terrier, had been running around a stable yard when she decided to put her head through the centre of a spare wheel.  Her owner promptly called the emergency services upon discovering that she had become stuck.

On arrival Animal Rescue Specialist Colin Horwood tried to free the dog by manually manipulating her back through the centre of the wheel. 

However, Tinks kept tensing herself during the careful procedure not allowing herself to be released. Colin decided to transport the trapped dog to St Kitts Veterinary Surgery in Hartley Wintney.  Under sedation by the vet she relaxed enough to be freed from the wheel - and was just a bit "tyre'd"!

"I am pleased to say that Tinks has made a full recovery from her ordeal which lasted an hour and a half. 

"Her owner has since disposed of the spare tyre to reduce the risk of this happening again.

"Our team of four Animal Rescue Specialists respond to a variety of incidents across the county which involve animals ranging from large farm animals, wild animals and domestic pets.  

"Our role is not solely responding to incidents, we are also heavily involved in education and the development of new rescue techniques, as well as promoting animal welfare. 

"Our dedicated team also shares best practice by training personnel from other fire and rescue services."
