Teenager Steals Purse Of Hospital Patient

83-year-old was lying in hospital bed at Southampton General, when someone rummaged through her beside drawer and took her purse.

Police in Southampton are appealing for information after an elderly woman had her purse stolen from her as she lay in her hospital bed.
 
The 83-year old was on Ward G5 at Southampton General Hospital on Thursday, December 1 at just after 7.15pm lying in her hospital bed when a youth came in her room. He removed her purse from her bedside table drawer and searched through it before stealingit.
 
The purse contained about £15 and an irreplaceable broach. The purse was an oval shaped purse in green and red tartan. The broach was oval shaped and silver. It had a glass window with a butterfly underneath. 
 
The youth who stole the purse is described as white, about 16-years-old, 5ft tall and well built. He was wearing a black baseball cap. Underneath the cap he had mousey coloured short hair which was slightly curly. He was wearing a khaki green coat whichseemed to go down to his knees. The coat had patch pockets. 
 
PC Alex Boucouvalas said: “This is a cruel incident where the elderly victim lay helpless in her bed. The offender managed to get past staff at the hospital without them realising what he was doing.
 
“I am appealing for anyone with information about this crime or who the thief is to come forward and contact me at Shirley Police Station, or to contact Crimestoppers. I would also advise all staff and  patients at the hospital to be vigilant.”
