Teenager Sexually Assaulted In Southampton

Officers investigating a report of a serious sexual assault in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, February 9) are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Police were called by South Central Ambulance Service at 2.02am after they attended to a young woman found lying on the ground in the underpass on Dorset Street, near to The Avenue, Southampton.

The 19-year-old woman had been found by a group of five people walking through the underpass, who called the ambulance after finding her in a distressed state.

When the group arrived they saw a man with her, who stayed for a short while but left before the emergency services arrived – officers are particularly keen to trace this man, who may be a vital witness.

The man is described as:
White
Around 24 years old
Short hair
Wearing a checked jumper, dark jeans and a scarf

Detective Inspector Fiona Bitters said, “This is a serious incident and we have a large number of officers carrying out enquiries in the city, and part of the underpass is closed while we gather all available evidence. Webelieve the man who was found with the woman could have important information about what happened, and we are very keen to identify him as soon as possible.”
