Spitbank Fort's Now A Luxury Retreat

The 134 year old Spitbank Fort just off the coast of Portsmouth's been turned turned into a luxury resort - and from today it's open to the public.

If you are looking for a truly unique destination in the UK, either for exclusive use or a memorable night away, then Amazing Retreats' latest addition - the former Napoleonic Spitbank Fort, situated a mile offshore from Portsmouth harbour, is the retreat to book for 2012. 

Dating back to 1878, the Grade II listed monument is an ideal backdrop to suit any occasion or memorable event, and can also be booked as a private getaway for those looking to experience the ultimate in luxury facilities. 

Wedding receptions, anniversaries, a landmark birthday celebration to remember, or business away days and corporate events can be created at Spitbank Fort, all in a unique manner following the philosophy of Amazing Retreats. 

Being surrounded by water and accessible only by boat adds to the magic and privacy of Spitbank Fort which will feature eight luxury bedrooms, all en-suite; three private dining rooms and bars including a rooftop champagne bar; a wine cellar, library, rooftop hot pool, sauna and sun decks.  

It's owned by the millionaire businessman Mike Clare. His company's also just bought the other two forts nearby in the Solent - No Man's Land Fort will become a 30-bedroom hotel and Horse Sand Fort will become a museum.
