Speed limits on a number of roads in the New Forest district look set to be reduced, if proposals are agreed by Hampshire County Council.
At a meeting on 27 July, Councillor Mel Kendal will be asked to consider the following changes:
* reduction of either derestricted limits or 40 mph speed limits to 30 mph on sections of the A31 at Cadnam and the A336 Southampton Road at Bartley;
* revising the speed limit on the A31 Romsey Road between Pollards Moor Road and Barrow Hill Road from 50 mph to 40 mph
* setting a 50mph speed limit on a section of A336 Southampton Road/Ringwood Road.
The changes that are recommended follow a review of speed limits in response to concerns raised by the local community. Reduced speed limits on the A31 and A336 where they pass through the built up areas of Cadnam, Copythorne and Bartley were also identified in the review of A and B roads being carried out across the county with a view to improving safety and reducing accidents.
Councillor Mel Kendal, Executive Member for Environment and Transport at Hampshire County Council, said: "I will be considering the introduction of revised speed limits on roads in the New Forest where it is believed this could help to reduce accidents and improve road safety."
