A man had a bottle of wine smashed on him during an attack outside Sainsbury's Local.
The 28-year-old was also punched and kicked, after leaving the store on Hill Lane on Sunday night.
The victim received cuts to his head and arm which required hospital treatment.
Police say the offender is described as white, in his mid-20s, with short blonde hair and of a stocky build. He was wearing a blue t-shirt and black shorts.
Detective Constable Simon Murray, said: "We believe this was an isolated incident and are appealing for anyone who has any information to come forward. Were you in the area at the time of the incident? Did you see or hear what happened? If you have any information that could help the inquiry, please get in touch."
