On April 15, 1912 1523 people were killed when the Titanic sank after it struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic Sea. 549 of those who lost their lives were from Southampton.

The tragedy made headlines across the world, and nearly 100 years on anything to do with the Titanic continues to draw international interest.

To commemorate the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic next year, the Sea City visitor attraction is set to open in April 2012 - 100 years since the Titanic left Southampton.
