It happened near the junction with Burgess Road and Bassett Avenue sometime between 4.30pm and 4.55pm on Monday, (January 17th)
The teenager had walked down Highfield Road and through the underpass to the common. On The Common she walked past a man walking in the same direction.
She heard the man mutter to himself and then she was pushed in the back and sexually assaulted by the man over her clothes.
She immediately screamed and he went off in the opposite direction before anything else could happen.
Just before the incident a woman jogger when past the victim and the attacker. Police are trying to trace the jogger as she is likely to be a vital witness.
She is described as: White female aged 18-25yrs old with brown/blonde hair in a ponytail.
The attacker is described as: White, aged somewhere between 50-65yrs, grey medium length scruffy hair, chunky build, English accent, wearing a black/dark short coat, and dark trousers.
