Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a 20-year-old woman was indecently assaulted near Southampton Central train station.
The woman was walking home alone after a night out in Southampton with friends. At about 1.40am on Thursday, September 27, she reached a pathway approaching the train station on the Toys R Us side of the road.
She was approached by a white man in his 20s who is about 5ft 11ins tall. He wore a dark blue plain hoodie, with the hood up and covering his mouth. Only his eyes and nose could be seen.
This man grabbed her and indecently assaulted her. The woman ran to the taxi rank outside the train station and got into a taxi.
DC David Wheeler said police are seeking witnesses to the incident. “We particularly want to speak to the taxi driver who drove the woman from the scene,” he said.
The victim was about 5ft 11ins tall in high heels. She has long blonde hair and wore a light coloured dress with a dark blue blazer jacket over the top.
“Did you see the assault and think, perhaps, it was some other sort of incident? Are you a taxi driver who was at the train station at that time and who recognises the description of the woman as one of your fares?” DC Wheeler asked.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Wheeler at Shirley CID on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
