Inquiry Into Car Transporter Crash
Police are appealing for witnesses after crash involving a Volvo heavy recovery vehicle towing a loaded articulated car transporter.
it was travelling towards Bullington Cross near Whitchurch on the A34 just after 11pm last night (8 October) when the car transporter it was towing broke free and collided with the central reservation, crossing the barrier onto the opposite carriageway.
Several Range Rovers being carried on the lorry came off and ended up in both carriageways. No other vehicles were involved.
No one was hurt, but the road was badly damaged.
A 29 year old man, who was driving the lorry, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving with an insecure load and causing danger to other road users. He's been bailed until November 26th.
The road was partly closed in both directions for most of the day to allow for repairs to the road surface and barriers.
It caused huge traffic delays through the morning rush hour, including 13 miles of tailbacks on the M3 motorway.
The A34 fully reopened at 4pm.
Anyone with information should contact Police Sergeant Lyndon Barrett at Whitchurch roads policing Unit on 101 quoting Operation Bodmin or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
