Could you guide visitors around Portsmouth?

If you have a passion for Pompey, a new course at Highbury College could be for you. Highbury College is working with Portsmouth City Council's visitor information service to offer the chance to train as a tour guide. Participants will study Portsmouth's rich history and its characteristics of the present day.

The open afternoon is on 28th April from 1pm at Highbury College, Winston Churchill Ave, Portsmouth. Students will achieve a City and Guilds Level 3 certificate in Tour Guiding which will make it possible for them to become a tour guide in the Portsmouth area.

The course requires an attendance of one evening per week for 15 weeks, and will include at least two practise walks of three hours each, so it will allow those who work full time to undertake a part-time course that will not affect their schedules too heavily.

No qualifications are required but excellent communication skills, a real enthusiasm for Portsmouth and an interest in the arts, history and other related subjects is beneficial. Course fees are £265 per person which includes a registration fee, payable at the time of enrolment.

Jane Singh, visitor information services manager, said:  "This is an exciting opportunity to learn more about Portsmouth's rich history and join our team of Tourist Guides."
