March Against Domestic Violence

Dozens of people will be taking part in a mass march through Portsmouth tonight (23rd November) - to raise awareness of violence against women.

The annual Reclaim the Night March has been organised by Aurora New Dawn and the Portsmouth White Ribbon group.

Hundreds of men, women and children are expected to meet at the Spinnaker Tower in Gunwharf Quays to begin the march through the city's streets at 7pm.

Hampshire police and firefighters are also backing the event.

Chief Inspector Ali Heydari said: "I hope that together we can help to raise awareness of domestic violence and also help these two hard working organisations to promote the Reclaim the Night march.  Domestic Violence is something that affects many people.  My message would be that there is help out there, so don't be afraid to speak up if you are a victim.

"I would urge people to take part in the march to stand together against violence towards women."
