Appeal After New Forest Gunpoint Robbery
British Transport Police officers have conducted an early morning witness appeal outside Brockenhurst railway station on Wednesday, 12 December, a week after a man was threatened and robbed at gunpoint.
Officers spoke to motorists and handed out leaflets between 6am and 8.30am as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident, which took place around 6.30am on Wednesday, 5 December.
The 64-year-old victim, from the local area, had just parked his car outside the station when he was approached and threatened by a man who appeared to be brandishing a handgun.
He told the victim to get back in his car and drive him to the HSBC bank in Brockenhurst, where he forced him to withdraw a large amount of cash from an ATM.
Between 7 and 7.15am he then made the man drive to a car park on Rhinefield Road and told him to get out of the car.
The robber then drove off and later abandoned the car, a grey Porsche 911 Carrera, in Sway Road, Brockenhurst, on a track near to the railway bridge.
Investigators want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, which began on the southern side of the Brockenhurst station car park, or anyone who saw the car or people involved in the forest.
The man detectives want to speak to in connection with the incident is described as being white, 5'10 tall and of slim - but not skinny - build. He was aged between 48 and 52-years-old and had a ruddy complexion.
The man was wearing a black, knitted balaclava, was clean shaven, had black eyebrows and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a Crombie-style black, three-quarter-length coat, dark trousers and blue and black, shabby cross trainers. He also had a small, blue and black rucksack.
Detective Inspector Sarah White, of British Transport Police (BTP), said: "As part of our ongoing investigation we are following up a number of leads, including viewing CCTV, analysing intelligence we've received and awaiting the result of forensic evidence, all of which could bring us closer to identifying the person responsible.
"I would like to thank members of the public and commuters for their patience while we conducted our appeal at Brockenhurst - we received some useful information which will be followed up by detectives.
"œFrom our enquiries we know passengers were at the station at the time; if you were there, or if you saw anyone matching the description acting suspiciously in the area, please get in touch."
