Police are investigating what led to a man being run over on a busy Southampton road.

At just after 5.35pm on Monday 16 June, police were called to the northbound side of The Avenue near the junction with Winchester Road.

A 26-year-old man was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, following a collision which also involved a blue Daewoo Kalos.

Officers had to close all four lanes of The Avenue (north and south) to traffic initially for a full forensic examination of the collision scene. One southbound lane was re-opened at the earliest opportunity.

The 26-year-old man remains in hospital today (Tuesday 17 June) for treatment to his leg. The 60-year-old female driver was not injured.
