Police investigating a fight in Romsey which left a man badly hurt, have charged a man with GBH.
It's after a street brawl in Cupernham Lane, Romsey, in the early hours of Saturday, July 9.
Lewis Scott Packham from Tavistock Close, is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court on Monday, July 11. He's accused of causing Grievous Bodily Harm with intent and Actual Bodily Harm.
Two other men arrested and questioned in connection with the incident, both aged 18 from Romsey, have been released on police bail until September 1, pending further enquiries.
A 28 year old Southampton man sustained serious head injuries in the incident and was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he is in a critical but stable condition.
Police want to speak to anyone who saw the fight or has any information about what happened to contact them.
Detective Inspector Toby Elcock said: “We are aware that a lot of information has appeared on social network sites over the weekend and some of this information is speculative and misleading. We would therefore urge anyone who has any information about the incident to contact us and refrain from speculating on the internet about the incident.
“It is far better that they contact us about what they know or about any concerns they have and they should also be aware that some comments we have seen may constitute a criminal offence. Where threats to peoples lives have been made, these will be thoroughly investigated which could lead to that person being arrested and prosecuted.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Eastleigh CID on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
