Police are appealing for two witnesses to come forward as an investigation continues into a report of an assault in Portsmouth.
A 60-year-old man from Portsmouth was walking to his car parked in Nancy Road where two men, he did not know, attacked him.
The victim received an injury to his head, which was not life threatening, during the assault at around 11pm on Thursday, August 4, 2011.
Investigating officer PC Duncan Green of Portsmouth's Targeted Patrol Teams (TPT) said:
"Police have pursued several lines of enquiry over the past week into what appears to have been an unprovoked attack. The victim was left on the floor bleeding from a cut to his head and we believe the assault could have been witnessed by two members of the public who asked the victim if he was okay afterwards. I'm appealing for these two people to come forward as they may have vital information that may assist police with ongoing enquiries."
These two people and any other potential witnesses are asked to contact PC Duncan Green at Cosham Police Station by phoning 101 or emailing http://www.hampshire.police.uk/Internet/contact/message_officer.htm.
