Four In Court Over Burning Bin Murder

Three men and a woman have been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with the murder of a man whose burnt body was found in an industrial bin in Southampton.

The body of Jamie Dack, 22, was discovered in the early hours of Sunday by firefighters tackling a blaze in the bin at the Empress Road industrial estate.

Ryan Woodmansey, 31, of no fixed abode, Lee Nicholls, 28, of Southampton Street, and Andrew Dwyer-Skeats, 25, and Donna Chalk, 20, both of Earls Road, Southampton, are charged with murder, false imprisonment and conspiracy to rob.

Woodmansey, Dwyer-Skeats and Nicholls face an additional count of causing grievous bodily harm.

It is alleged Mr Dack was kidnapped in an attempt to steal his bank card and was attacked with a baseball bat before being stabbed to death and set on fire.

The four defendants appeared at a preliminary hearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court where they were remanded in custody to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Monday April 16th.

They spoke only to confirm their names, addresses and dates of birth.

Jamie's family have issued this statement:

"Jamie was a loving son and brother, well liked by everyone and he will be sadly missed. 

"He was a good natured young man who liked to chat and made friends easily and had a trusting nature.

"His whole family are devastated by his untimely death. 

"He was a young man who should have had his whole life ahead of him, and this has been cut abruptly short by whoever committed this horrendous crime."

Detectives are continuing to appeal for any further witnesses to come forward. They are asked to call the Operation Waterloo team at Hulse Road on 101. Information can be given anonymously by phoning the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
