Jewellery Stolen From Portsmouth Home

Police are investigating a burglary where £5,000 worth of jewellery was reported stolen from a house on Portsdown Road in Portsmouth.

An 80-year-old woman was moving her lawn when she saw a man, she did not know, leave her house at around 1.45pm on Friday, June 1, 2012.

The woman was not injured, but was left very shaken by what happened.

It’s suspected the man stole a pillow case inside the house to transport the jewellery he had also taken.

Items reported stolen include:

> Brooches

> A gold locket and cross

> A gate bracelet watch

> Numerous nine carat gold dress rings including a ring with a garnet stone set in a claw

> A wedding band

> An 18 carat gold opal ring set in a flower

> Various gold chains and bracelets.

The suspect was described as:

> White with a slightly tanned complexion

> Medium build

> Aged in his late teens to early 20s

> Short dark brown hair, which was pushed forward across his forehead like a fringe

> He was wearing a white/cream jacket, which was zipped right up to his neck.

Investigating officer PC Alex Saccoccio said: “The woman believes this man came and went on a bicycle, which she had seen left against her front hedge. This bike is described as a new looking black bike, which had thick chunky tyres and a royal blue diagonal crossbar.

"The burglary left the elderly victim very shaken as the jewellery stolen is of huge sentimental value to her.
