Police at Hedge End have released a CCTV still of a man suspected of trying to steal jackets from Cotswolds Outdoor shop in Lower Northam Road, Hedge End.
At about 3.30pm on Thursday, September 27, a man tried to leave the shop without paying for seven jackets with a total value of about £1,000.
The man is described as white with medium length blond hair. He is in his late twenties and wore a blue hoody and blue jeans.
The store manager, a 40-year-old Portsmouth man, wrestled with him and managed to recover the coats.
The man fled, empty-handed, down a nearby alleyway.
PC Lee Prior has appealed for information from anyone who recognises the man in the photo.
"We also would like to hear from anyone who saw a man running from the shop and down the alleyway, possibly to a waiting vehicle" he said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Prior at Hedge End on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
