Gunwharf Quays Evacuated Due To Fire

Portsmouth's Gunwharf Quays was evacuated this morning after a fire broke out in one of its restaurants (Tuesday 22nd May 2012).

More than 30 firefighters were called at 0915hrs to a fire in the extraction system within the roof space of the Water Margin Restaurant.

Glenn Bowyer, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said,

"Firefighters were quick to identify the risks posed by this incident and set up an exclusion zone whilst the fire was dealt with within the property."

Fire crews from Southsea, Cosham, Havant and Wickham, along with the Command Unit, Aerial Ladder Platform, Multi Role Vehicle and Special Equipment Unit, were mobilised to the incident.

The shopping centre was reopened by 1pm.
