A man has died in a house fire in Fareham. this is the statement from Hampshire fire and Rescue
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to a bungalow fire in Fareham on Saturday morning just before 08:00.
The alarm was raised by a working smoke detector and the crews on scene were faced with a severe fire in the ground floor.
Two crews from Fareham and one crew from Portchester used four sets of breathing apparatus to get into the property and used jets to extinguish the fire.
One elderly female managed to escape the property and was taken to hospital as a precaution. The crews rescued an elderly man and handed him to the ambulance service for treatment. Sadly the man died at the scene.
We are currently investigating the cause of the fire in conjunction with the police and it is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.
Please make sure you and your family stay safe by making sure you have working smoke alarms and an escape plan.
