Dog Bites 5-year-old Boy In The Face

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a dog bit a five year old boy in the face.

It happened in Mayfield Park, Weston, Southampton, between 4.40pm and 4.50pm on Sunday, January 2.

As the boy went to stroke the dog, it turned on him and bit him on the upper left cheek just below the eye.  The boy attended Southampton General Hospital to have the wound dressed and was also given antibiotics.  It is too early to say whether there will be any permanent scarring.

The boy’s father approached the dog’s owner who denied it was her dog that had bitten the boy and walked off.

She is described as:

White
Aged 30-36 years
She was wearing a black baseball cap and black fleece jacket.
The dog was a Springer Spaniel or similar, predominately white with black dots/patches and a brown nose.

There were a number of people in the park at that time and police are appealing for anyone who can help identify the offending dog and its owner to come forward.

Information should be given by phoning Bitterne police station on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
