Police in Southampton are appealing for information about a dog which attacked a 4 year old boy as he walked with his mum on Southampton common.
A ‘brindle’ coloured Staffordshire Bull Terrier type dog with a flash of white on its back by its tail came up to the child and bit him on the face.
It then ran off and no owner was seen. It’s not known if the dog is a stray or its owner was elsewhere on the common and police are now trying to trace it. They are asking for anyone who has seen it on the Common or for anyone who thinks
they may know whose dog it is to contact them. It happened about 6pm on Thursday, April 21.
The boy was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance and had to have a number of stitches under his left eye but was luckily not seriously hurt and is now back home with his parents.
However officers want to trace the animal to stop it happening again and officers patrolling the area are keeping an eye out for it.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Portswood Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
