CCTV Released Of Cash Robber
Police appealing for witnesses after a woman had almost £1700 stolen from her as she walked near Fryern Arcade in Chandlers Ford have released a CCTV still.
The 44-year-old was crossing Oakmount Road at its junction with Winchester Road at around 4pm on Friday, December 23, when she was approached by a man who snatched an envelope containing the cash from her and also a black iPhone.
He ran off down Winchester Road in the direction of the Chandlers Ford Railway Station.
The victim shouted out and started chasing him. Some other members of the public joined in and the man was seen to enter the car park at the back of Blockbusters and then disappeared.
The man is described as white, aged between 30 and 50 and of slim build and around 6ft tall.
He had dark stubble of his face and was wearing a dark coloured woolly hat and a dark hooded top and trousers.
The victim was left shaken and upset by her ordeal as the money had been saved up by her family to give to a charity and she was on her way to pay it in when this happened.
Officers say this is a very rare occurrence in the village and was at a time of day when there were quite a lot of people around..
They are asking for anyone who thinks they recognise the man in the pictures or witnessed what happened to contact them.
Police are also advising people to make sure if they are carrying large sums of money to keep it well out of sight and make sure it is secure as possible.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Eastleigh CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 1111.
