Police are releasing a photograph in a fresh appeal for witnesses after an allegation of serious assault on a woman in Southsea.

The 25-year-old was attacked in Fawcett Road at approximately 1.30am on Saturday, April 30, 2011.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Julie Way of Portsmouth CID said:  “The victim was found with severe bruising and swelling to her eyes and one of her cheeks after it’s alleged she was assaulted by a man.

“The Fawcett Road area was busy at the time with people returning from Royal Wedding celebrations.

“We’re now in a position to release a CCTV image of a potential key witness. It’s believed this man is of Polish or Eastern European origin. We understand he intervened and may have prevented the victim from suffering further serious injury.”
