Body Identified After Van Goes Off Cliff
Police have identified a body found after a vehicle plunged off 100-metre high cliffs at a beauty spot.
The body was found close to a vehicle at the bottom of cliffs at Culver on the Isle of Wight.
It was formally identified this evening (Thursday) as missing man Robert Hayball, aged 20, of Nelson Road, Newport, Isle of Wight.
The identification was made by next-of-kin who are being kept informed of enquiries by police family liaison officers.
Police were called at 2.52am on Thursday, October 11, 2012 by a member of the public who was concerned for the welfare of Mr Hayball.
He was reported to have left home driving a van. Police received information a short time later that a vehicle had gone over a cliff at Culver.
A vehicle, believed to be Mr Hayball's van, remains underwater off the coast of Culver.
Police say they are considering options for the safe recovery of the vehicle, which is not thought to have been carrying any other people.
Mr Hayball's death is not being treated as suspicious at this time. A post-mortem examination is due to take place later this week. HM Coroner has been informed.
Police have thanked HM Coastguard, the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and the RNLI for their help.
Paul Charles, 53, and his wife Jacqueline, 48, were killed when they drove off the same cliff in their Renault Scenic car in August last year.
An inquest heard the pair had a ''destructive relationship'' and the coroner recorded verdicts of suicide.
