Busy New Year For Emergency Crews
While many of us celebrated the new year in style, spare a thought for our emergency services across the south coast.
Hampshire Police say they had almost 800 call outs between midnight and 5 this morning, and that doesn't count anything dealt with spontaneously by officers on the streets.
The Southampton custody centre was full overnight, with anyone else arrested having to be taken to the cells in Fareham and Lyndhurst.
Lots of police teams were tweeting through the night, dealing with noisy neighbours, drunk people in the street, and drink drive arrests.
Officers have been staying on duty hours after their shifts have finished.
Ambulance crews were also busy. The South Central Ambulance Service - which covers Hampshire - had extra paramedics on duty along with extra staff in the call centre.
