Brick Thrown At Ambulance

The South Central Ambulance Service says it's shocked that a brick was thrown off a bridge over the A3M near Purbrook at an ambulance.

The ambulance was travelling with a patient to hospital at approximately 8:10am on Monday 11 July 2011, using blue lights and sirens.

The crew noticed someone climbing the rails to throw something off at the ambulance, and the driver managed to slow the vehicle down and avoid an accident.

SCAS says it wants anyone who may have seen the incident occur on the A3M just after junction 4 Southbound (Purbrook) to contact the police.

Phil Pimlott, Divisional Director said

“We are disappointed and shocked by the incident which occurred on Monday.

"This is not a common occurrence that said we take very seriously any act that serves to threaten the lives of our staff and our patients and we are grateful that the members of staff in the vehicle were able to prevent an accident happening.

"We would urge anyone with information to come forward.”

Havant Inspector Rob Mitchell said:

"We believe it was school children responsible for this incident.

"While they may think it was just a prank they need to be aware that their reckless actions could cause a serious accident and endanger people's lives.

"We are taking this incident very seriously and fully investigating it.

"I would appeal for anyone who witnessed it or has experienced a similar incident to contact us with any information they have.

"This incident also serves as a reminder to parents to talk to their children about this kind of behaviour and explain that it isn't a game - it could have very serious consequences for motorists as well as the child and it will be investigated by the police."

Anyone with any information should contact PC Michael Kutner at Havant police station on 101 or call the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
