Police are appealing to a hit and run driver who knocked a 10-year-old boy off his bicycle in the New Forest to contact them.

The driver of the car failed to stop to check on the child, who was uninjured.

The collision occurred at about 4.15pm Wednesday 17 July, when the boy was cycling in Middle Road, Sway. The black car turned from Station Road into Middle Road, hitting the rear wheel of the cycle.

The car is a black saloon car with tinted rear windows and a very loud exhaust.

PC David Barnes is appealing to the driver to contact police. He also wants to hear from anyone who recognises the description of the car and knows the identity of the driver:

“This collision could well have resulted in serious injury to the cyclist, had he not been wearing a helmet. All cyclists should take note.”

“We also want to speak to the car driver about his or her actions. It is hard to imagine why the driver did not stop to check on the boy’s welfare.”

The driver or anyone with information about the driver’s identity is asked to contact PC Barnes at Lymington on 101.
