Attempted Robbery At Southsea Jewellers

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man armed with a hammer attempted to rob a jewellers in Southsea.

At around 2.20pm on Wednesday, December 21, a man wearing navy blue puffa style jacket with the hood pulled up entered the Roux at 27 jewellers in Marmion Road.
 
After being in the shop for a couple of minutes he pulled a hammer from his jacket and smashed a glass display case. A member of staff yelled at the man to get out of the shop and he ran out and made off in the directionof Victoria Road South.
 
There were two staff members and a customer in the shop at the time of the incident; none were threatened or injured.
 
The man is described as:
 
Black
Very slim
Around 6ft tall
Short cropped hair
Wearing a navy blue coloured puffa style jacket
 
DC Fiona Wright of Fratton CID said: "The offender had come to this jeweller's shop with a hammer to break his way into one of the display cabinets and steal the jewellery on display, but he clearly wasn’t prepared for theresponse of the owner who shouted at him to leave the shop. 
 
"This clearly shocked him and he left empty handed. 
 
"It was mid afternoon in the popular Southsea shopping area of Marmion Road. There would have been lots of people in Marmion Road, perhaps enjoying a cup of coffee in the several of the cafes that the offender would havewalked past on his way to the jewellers or ran past after he left.
