Police have launched an investigation following an armed robbery at a Portsmouth off-licence last night (March 15th).
It happened at the Kwiki Mart in New Road, Kingston.
Around 8pm, Tuesday, March 15, a man walked into the store, pointed a gun at the worker behind the counter and demanded money.
The worker, a 24-year-old man, opened the till and the offender took between £700 and £800 in cash before running off.
DC Allison Fraser from Portsmouth CID said: “The worker did the right thing and phoned police on 999 immediately. He’s uninjured but very shaken up.
“He had no way of knowing whether or not the gun was an imitation and when faced with that situation it’s just not worth taking the risk.
“Officers were on scene within a matter of minutes to carry out a search of the area. Dozens of police in total were at the scene last night to carry out investigations and house-to-house enquiries.”
Police would like to hear from anyone with information about the robbery, particularly anyone who saw the offender leaving the scene.
He is described as:
A black man
5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins tall
28 to 30-years-old
Medium build
Short afro hair
Wearing a black jacket and a blue and light coloured scarf covering his face
DC Fraser continued: “If you recognise the description of the suspect, or know who did this, please get in touch.
“I’d also like to hear from anyone who may have discovered a jacket, other clothing or gun discarded, perhaps in a garden or undergrowth or anywhere around New Road.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Fraser at Fratton police station on 101 or 0845 045 45 from outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. You can also call the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
