Police are appealing for witnesses after a 19-year-old man was racially attacked by a gang outside a shop in Southampton.

The victim, who's black, had racist remarks shouted at him as they kicked and punched him while he waited for a friend outside the CO-OP at Maybush Corner, Rownhams Road.

It happened on Friday, August 12 at around 5.45pm. The victim tried to defend himself but was kicked to the ground. Eventually the group left and a member of the public came up to him to check he was alright.

The victim went home but later discovered that as well as bruises he had a dislocated shoulder and was treated at Southampton General Hospital for his injury.

Officers are now trying to trace the member of the public who helped him. They are also appealing for any other witnesses.

It’s believed a group of around seven men were involved. They are all described as having very short or ‘skinhead’ haircuts and aged in their late teens or early 20s.

Anyone who did witness the attack or has any information about the incident is asked to contact PC Jessica Wilkins at Shirley police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555
111.
