Abandoned Winchester Dogs Looking For New Homes

The RSPCA is looking for new homes for two of the poodle cross dogs dumped in a horribly matted state in January in Winchester.

Some of the dogs could hardly walk because of the weight of their severely matted fur and it was impossible to tell what breed they were.

After weeks in RSPCA care, all of them have made a transformation and two need new homes.

Dave (pictured), a white poodle cross who is about 18 months old, is being cared for at the RSPCA's Mount Noddy Animal Centre in Chichester.

Staff say he is getting fitter by the day and really enjoys his walks, however he is a little anxious and can be a bit jumpy.

Emily Bowen, RSPCA branch support specialist, said:

"Dave is starting to show signs of confidence, but he will take time to get to know new people.

"Although he's a fun and playful dog he's not really sure of how to act around other dogs and can get a bit over excited so he'll also need some boundaries setting.

"We think he would be best as an only dog so that his new owner can spend a lot of one on one time with him.

"He really hasn't had the best start in life but we know that he will reward his new owners with love and devotion."

Mavis, who is also white and about two-years-old is looking for a fosterer rather than an adopter at the moment.

She's described as very exuberant and craving attention.

Emily said: "Mavis is not house trained so will require a patient foster home where she can learn to behave as a dog and discover how much fun life can be!"

"None of the dogs have been used to living in a home environment so we really do need extra special people to take them on and give them the time, training and patience needed to get them used to a normal, happy life.

"We are only looking for a foster home for Mavis at the moment as she needs to be in a home environment to get her used to all the different things she hasn't yet experienced. Eventually she will make a great permanent pet though."

Two other dogs (named Kate and Justin) have already been fostered and the other five still need some more care before they'll be ready to go to new homes.
