5 Arrested After Elderly Man Attacked
Police investigating an assault on an elderly man near Newport Bus station have made 5 arrests.
It happened between 5.45pm and 5.55pm on Wednesday, 2 January 2013 when a 74-year-old man was left with cuts and bruises after being attacked by a group of youths.
His injuries included a swollen hand, cuts to his nose and lip and bruised ribs.
Investigating Officer PC Alan Spence said: “This is a rare assault which happened in a busy area of Newport during a period where numerous people would have been in Newport bus station and may have witnessed the incident.
We would ask anyone with information to contact Newport Police Station on 101. Alternatively, you can call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.”
The 4 boys and 1 girl arrested are all aged between 14 and 16, they're currently on police bail until 28th January 2013.
