2 Arrested Over Fatal Chilworth Crash
Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash on Winchester Road, Chilworth near Southampton yesterday.
The collision occurred shortly before 2.30pm and involved a Honda Civic and a Scania LGV, which was being used for driver training.
The car, driven by an 82-year-old man, was in collision with the rear of the lorry, fatally injuring the front seat passenger, a 70-year-old Southampton woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The car driver was initially thought to have sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Southampton General Hospital where his injuries were deemed minor.
The Scania driver, a 43-year-old Southampton man, and his passenger, a 45-year-old Southampton man, were uninjured.
The road was closed for four hours while police examined the scene and arranged the recovery of the vehicles.
Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding the collision, or anyone who saw either vehicle prior to it, to contact PC Claire Miller at the Road Death Investigation Team on 101, quoting Operation Bassoon.
