A woman has been attacked and robbed during a "frightening ordeal" in her own home.
The incident happened at around 10pm on Sunday when a man forced his way into the property on Balmoral Road, Dumfries.
He assaulted the 49-year-old and made off with a sum of money.
The victim sustained minor injuries and was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for treatment before being released.
Detective Sergeant Colin McKinstry of Dumfries CID said: "This was a very frightening ordeal for the woman concerned who was within her own home when she was targeted.
"I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have heard a disturbance to get in touch with police.
"Thankfully the woman was not seriously injured, however, she has been left extremely upset as a result.
"It is imperative we find who is responsible and I am hopeful that someone will have information that could assist with our enquiries."
The suspect is described as white, around 5ft 6 inches to 5ft 7 inches in height, of slim build and had a gaunt facial appearance.
He was wearing a black zip-up waterproof jacket, dark trousers and a black woolly hat.
