Three teenagers have been assaulted and robbed by a man they tried to help.

The victims had initially attempted to aid the suspect, who had been lying on steps near the Fountain Park area of Edinburgh.

The man rejected the help and proceeded to chase all three youngsters along Dundee Street and onto Henderson Terrace.

He then caught them and took their money.

The attacker ran off along Dalry Road towards the Haymarket area.

The incident happened between 3.50am and 4.10am on Saturday.

The suspect is described as white, around 20 to 25 years old, approximately 6ft tall with a stocky build and had a half sleeve tattoo on his arm.

Detective Constable Martin Smith of Police Scotland said: "The three teenagers had only tried to help this man who in turn assaulted and robbed them.

"The incident has left them all very shocked and we are keen to trace the suspect.
