Police Revisit Scene Of Bank Robbery

Detectives investigating a robbery in which a five-figure sum was stolen during a transfer of cash at a bank have returned to the scene a week after the incident.

The G4S security staff were inside the Santander bank on West Princes Street in Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute, when two men entered and threatened them with weapons at about 12.30am last Wednesday.

The men then ran off with the cash box.

Police revisiting the scene hope interviewing passing motorists will jog memories, which hopefully will provide new information which could help the ongoing investigation.

The suspects are described as being of medium height, thin build and were wearing blue overalls and masks at the time of the robbery.

Officers have been carrying out a number of inquiries in the local area, including reviewing CCTV and speaking to residents and businesses nearby.

Detective Inspector Alistair Davidson said: "We also now understand that high performance vehicles may have been used by the suspects to escape from the area.

"You may have heard the sound of engines revving in and around West Princes Street between 12 midnight and 1am.

"One week on, we hope that a significant presence in West Princes Street, interviewing those passing by and reconstructing events as we understand them currently, could help open up new lines of inquiry to trace the men responsible.

"No matter how insignificant it may seem, please contact us with any information you have. It may not seem like much to you, but as part of our larger investigation, your information could be critical in tracing the person responsible.''
