A person has died inside a burning car after a multi-vehicle crash in Edinburgh.
Emergency services were called to the incident on Maybury Road at around 12.30am on Friday.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said four cars were involved in the collision, which took place just after the Maybury Roundabout.
One of the vehicles burst into flames with a person inside and once the fire was extinguished they were found to have died, a Police Scotland spokesman said.
Officers shut the road following the incident.
The spokesman said: "As a result of this collision, one car caught fire.
"After the flames were extinguished it was established that an individual within the vehicle had sadly died.
"Inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident, including the number of vehicles involved, are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.
"The road is expected to remain closed for a number of hours while police continue with their investigations at the scene."
