Man's Death Now Murder Investigation

The death of a man in a late night disturbance is now being treated as murder.

Stephen Coutts was found injured at the scene of the incident in Mayfield Road, Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, at around 11.50pm yesterday (Saturday)

The 35-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment but died a short time later, police said.

His family have been informed.

Officers had earlier said the death was suspicious but a murder investigation was launched after a post mortem examination this afternoon.

Another man was also injured in the disturbance and remains in hospital where staff describe his condition as stable.

Police closed off parts of Mayfield Road today as forensic officers scoured grass, undergrowth and bins in the area.

Detective Inspector David Moran said: "The investigation is at an early stage and officers are conducting inquiries in the surrounding area to establish what happened.
