Man Stabbed In Glasgow's Merchant City

A man was stabbed after leaving a city-centre bar in a "targeted attack'', police have said.

The 31-year-old was targeted when he came out of a bar in Albion Street in Glasgow's Merchant City at about 8.40pm on Thursday.

Three men in a dark-coloured Vauxhall Zafira followed him and two men then got out of the car and chased him.

One of the men grabbed the man as he was running along Albion Street towards Ingram Street and stabbed him.

A passer-by intervened and kept the attacker back, and he and the second suspect got back into the car.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where medical staff describe his condition as stable.

Police are appealing for information about the incident.

Detective Constable Gordon Walker, of Glasgow city centre CID, said: "We believe that this was a targeted attack on the man.

"He had just come out of a bar on Albion St, where he was followed by three men in a dark-coloured Vauxhall Zafira.

"Two of the men got out of the car and as he was running along Albion Street towards Ingram Street, one of the men grabbed and stabbed him.

"The suspects then got back into the car which drove off towards Blackfriars Street.

"From CCTV we know that a male passer-by intervened in the attack, keeping the attacker back. As a result, he, along with the second suspect, made off back into the car.

"We are keen for this man to come forward as he may have information that will help our enquiries.

"Albion Street was very busy last night with lots of people in the area that may have witnessed the incident.

"So far only a couple of witnesses have come forward, however it's possible that others may have perceived this to be a drunken disturbance and thought nothing of it.

The suspect is described as male, of Asian appearance, slim and wearing all black clothing including a black baseball cap.
