Police are investigating after reports a horse has been stabbed and "sexually violated'' in an attack in a field.
The incident happened near New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, overnight on Sunday and the female horse called Blaze had to be put down.
In a Facebook post, Blaze's owner said someone entered the field and stabbed the horse twice in the chest before "sexually violating'' the animal.
A £1,000 reward was offered to anyone who could provide information which leads to an arrest.
The post has been shared thousands of times.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We have had a report of an injured horse in the New Pitsligo area and inquiries are ongoing into the incident.
"Anyone with information should get in touch.''
