Family Of Bin Lorry Crash Victim Sue Glasgow City Council

Glasgow City Council is being sued by the family of a woman killed in the bin lorry tragedy.

6 people died when driver Harry Clarke blacked out at the wheel in the city centre just days before Christmas in 2014.

He isn't facing any criminal charges, and an attempt by some of the families of those killed to bring a private prosecution was rejected last year.

Now, the sons of Jacqueline Morton have gone to the Court of Session in Edinburgh in a bid to claim compensation following their mother's death.

It could pave the way for payouts totalling million of pounds to be given to the loved ones of all those killed.

Stephenie Tait, Erin McQuade, Jack and Lorraine Sweeney, and Gillian Ewing also died in the crash.

Glasgow City Council says it won't contest the claims.

A spokesman told Capital "Our insurers are working to settle claims. Our thoughts remain with bereaved families and those who were injured."
