A motorist has suffered a serious chest injury in a ''targeted'' attack in Renfrewshire.
The assault happened at 8.40pm on Friday while the 29-year-old man was sitting in his car on the westbound carriageway of Glasgow Road in Renfrew.
A white car parked behind him and a man got out and approached him as he got out of his car.
He was assaulted with a sharp object before the suspect drove off.
The victim was treated at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for a serious injury to his chest before being released.
Detective Constable Laura Durnie, of Paisley CID, said: ''We do not believe that this was a random attack and believe that the 29-year-old man was specifically targeted by the suspect, never-the-less we cannot tolerate this kind of violence in our streets in Renfrewshire.
''The area of Glasgow Road which is near to the Braehead Shopping Centre would have been busy with people coming to and from the centre and I appeal to anyone who either witnessed this incident or has any other information that could help identify the suspect to contact police at Paisley police station via 101.''
