A young man is in a stable condition in hospital after being stabbed by a gang of five in a ''totally unprovoked attack'' in Glasgow.
The 22-year-old was with a 21-year-old woman in Benthall Street near Glasgow Green at around 2.30am on Saturday when he was attacked.
Police said five men and women were involved and the victim suffered ''several stab wounds''.
He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where staff say he is in a stable condition.
His female friend who witnesses the attack is said to be ``traumatised''.
The suspects - three men and two women all in their early 20s - were last seen in Turnlaw Street.
The men are between 5ft 4in and 5ft 6in with thin builds. Two were wearing dark grey hooded tops and the other a dark tracksuit top.
One of the women has a slim build, with dark hair in a bun and was wearing a denim jacket, black leggings and white trainers.
The other has a heavy build with blonde shoulder length hair and was wearing a dark zipper top.
Detective Constable Ashleigh Coghlan said: ``This was a very violent attack and what appeared to be a totally unprovoked attack which has left a young man with serious injuries and his female friend traumatised by the incident.
''I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this attack or anyone who saw the five culprits running off afterwards as they may have information that could assist us in identifying those responsible.
''Anyone with information is asked to contact Cathcart CID via telephone number 101 or alternatively information can be passed via Crimstoppers where anonymity can be maintained.''
